A word from the Principal….
The spirit at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Middle School is alive with quality academics, incredible art, music and foreign language classes, and teachers who believe that high expectations allow students to reach higher than even they think is possible. And Christ is at the center of all we do!
The Difference is Prayer is the main thread that connects the GTACS faith community. It is what we strive to live for and reach for – each and every day.
At St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, we ask students to follow these three basic rules: Do what is right. Do your best. Treat others the way you’d like to be treated. These three rules are the answers to these three basic questions: Can I trust you? Are you committed to excellence? Do you care about me? I truly believe that by following this philosophy every moment of the day helps us to reveal and feel good about the gifts God has given all of us. My hope is that each and every student will leave St. Elizabeth Ann Seton with the seeds of faith firmly planted on their mind and in their heart.

SEAS Back to School Letter 2009
Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Middle School serves as an excellent bridge to higher education. We are committed to strengthening spiritual beliefs, stressing academic excellence, building character and developing confidence and a positive self-image. Our successful Academic Excellence Program motivates students to set short and long term goals and provides the opportunity to be recognized by teachers and peers for their accomplishments.
The academic program continues to build upon the foundation set by the upper elementary school. Thinking skills are further developed through the use of interdisciplinary activities, cooperative learning, technology, creative writing and manipulatives.
Our math scores on standardized tests are predominantly above national averages, due in part to our Saxon math program that transitions to Chicago math, a program that challenges students by placing them in a book based on their ability, not grade level. Language Arts classes use the Accelerated Reader Program. This program challenges students to read more books, resulting in higher reading levels, comprehension and improved test scores. In addition to Accelerated Reader, students are also encouraged to read during the Annual Readathon that is held as a school wide competition.
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton has two fully equipped science labs, and a large “hands-on” classroom in which to explore, investigate and research the physical, life and earth sciences. The computer lab provides all students with skills needed in today’s workplace. Our computer, art, band, and Spanish classes allow creative minds to be expressed, expanded and enlightened.
Our faculty recognizes that the emerging adolescent deserves and requires special attention, which is why we implemented a Student Assistance Program (SAP). This program allows teachers, parents and students to voice individual academic concerns to a team of teachers, counselors, family members and the school principal. Teachers also have the NWEA testing program at their disposal, which is administered twice a year and aides in gauging student growth and determining instruction.
Our extra-curricular activities allow your middle school student activities ranging from Builder's Club, Spelling and National Geography Bees, and Odyssey of the Mind. We also offer a Math Counts contest that showcases student’s math knowledge and a trip to Washington, D.C. to expand knowledge of U.S. History and how democracy governs itself. Athletic opportunities include boys/girls basketball, football, girls volleyball, cross-country skiing, cross country running, downhill ski club, boys/girls track, and tennis.
Faith development occurs in many different ways at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Middle School. Mass is held every Friday in the school gym and is structured to allow each grade to participate by planning the liturgy and involving students and staff members as lectors, readers, cantors, Eucharistic ministers and servers. Daily religion classes focus on the Old Testament, Jesus’ life and New Testament.
Some of the Christian Service Projects at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton include the Father Fred Food Drives, the Carmelite Monastery Advent Project, and the Annual Sweetheart Luncheon for the local Variety Club. Each grade also sponsors a CFCA child and helps raise money through an annual walk-a-thon. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton also collects hats and mittens during the winter for local families, runs "The OMNI Project" which collects personal and medical supplies Zambian Orphans, and also sponsors "The Solidarity Project" with the San Luis Diocesan School in Matagalpa. The students also sell fair trade coffee and chocolate to raise money for the "Ethiopia School Project." In recent years, students have become "Prayer Warriors" to help support the soldiers in Iraq through prayer and care packages. The SEAS Builder's Club also donates money to the Katie Heintz Memorial Basketball Tournament, which helps raise money for the Oncology Unit at Munson Hospital. The students also take part in the "Kids Against Hunger" program when they package food and sent it overseas.
At the end of the year, students are rewarded with the annual Spirit Week, which consists of daily competitions and ends with a Field day. A Father Fred Food Drive is also incorporated into this week, as part of the competition, but also considers the Christian spirit of service. The year comes to a close with annual class trips: the 6th grade goes to a local camp, the 7th grade ventures to Mackinac Island, and the 8th grade travels to Michigan Adventure.
Our goal at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Middle School is to educate the whole adolescent; spiritually, intellectually and emotionally in a safe environment with high academic expectations, clear guidelines and daily encouragement. |
