Welcome to St. Francis High School, where we emphasize that Christ is the reason for our school. This is emphasized in our school mantra, which we recite together regularly;
"By challenging our students to be the best they can be in and outside of the classroom, we believe that, with their eyes on the cross, our students graduate from St. Francis High School prepared to succeed in life, both here on earth and in heaven with Our Father."
- Erick Chittle, Principal
At Saint Francis High School all of the traditional areas are available to your student. Our curriculum is solid and offers both accelerated and honor program options. Student opportunities reach far beyond our school walls. Many of our students are actively participating in dual enrollment programs at Northwestern Michigan College and the Traverse Bay Area I.S.D. Career Tech Center.
The Saint Francis environment is one that strives to be Christ-centered. Our school size allows your student to really know their teachers and classmates and be an active part in their own education. Our parental commitment is important as we work together to promote growth in responsibility, confidence, competence and faith.
Faith development and our deep parish roots are at the heart of our mission exemplified biweekly masses, prayer before each class and Christian Service requirements for all students. In 2003, a Mission Trip took several seniors to Oaxaca, Mexico to serve the people from that community by assisting with construction and much more! Plus, a school-wide service project is organized by the Student Council. It is programs such as these that set Saint Francis apart!
In the Spring of 2003, Saint Francis chartered a Key Club, which is a service organization supported by the Kiwanis Club. With 30 members, the club has become a vibrant service arm of the school. Gladmeals, as a part of Key Club, holds a Soup Kitchen each month in the school cafeteria.
Our athletic programs seek to instill self-discipline, team-building, self-confidence and school pride while engaging students in wholesome, enjoyable activities. A myriad of sports options exist for boys and girls, freshman through varsity levels. At least 80% of our students participate in athletics as well as other extracurricular opportunities including drama, debate, forensics, pom squad, band, Key Club, choir and much more!
College choices of recent graduates include Northwestern Michigan College, Central Michigan University, Michigan State University, the University of Michigan, Aquinas College, Alma, Albion, Hope, Notre Dame, Carnegie-Mellon, Dartmouth, the Naval Academy and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
Our graduates do very well at highly competitive colleges and universities, achieving above a 3.0 in their first year. In the past six years our graduates at the University of Michigan have averaged between 3.07 – 3.45 grade point average. Admissions counselors have made it clear to us that our students perform better than the average, have fewer dropouts, and are better prepared for the pace and demands of academics.
In conjunction with our parents, Saint Francis seeks to produce life-long learners and contributors with a sound foundation of faith. Over 125 years of graduating classes will attest to our strong tradition in accomplishing this goal. We invite you to explore what Saint Francis has to offer your child. Call us today! |
